Outsourced NIS2 officer

For organisations that fall under NIS2 and have no one internally who owns compliance. We take on the coordination: tracking the measures, keeping the documentation current, reporting to management and keeping the organisation ready for inspection.

What you get

Eight areas of work, covered continuously for the duration of the engagement. The depth of each is set after the initial assessment, according to your classification and current maturity.

01 · Classification

Analysis of applicable obligations

We establish whether the organisation is an essential or an important entity, starting from sector, size, services provided and infrastructure in use. The output is the concrete list of obligations and the order in which they should be addressed.

02 · Coordination

Implementing the requirements

We plan and track the work needed for compliance, together with your internal teams.

  • implementation plan
  • prioritisation of measures
  • tracking responsibilities
  • linking technical measures to requirements
  • progress verification
  • status reports
03 · Monitoring

Cybersecurity measures

We monitor the technical, operational and organisational measures on a continuing basis.

  • risk analysis
  • policies and procedures
  • access control
  • asset management
  • human resources security
  • cryptography
  • multi-factor authentication
  • backup and continuity
  • incident management
  • supply chain security
  • staff training
  • effectiveness of measures
04 · Documentation

Internal governance

We draft, update and maintain the documentation that demonstrates compliance — kept current, not reconstructed the week before an audit.

  • security policies
  • operational procedures
  • risk register
  • risk treatment plan
  • asset register
  • incident management
  • internal reporting
  • backup and recovery
  • access control
  • suppliers and supply chain
  • continuity plan
  • training and awareness
05 · Management

Reporting to the board

NIS2 requires management involvement. Your management bodies receive the compliance status, the current risk level, priority measures, open responsibilities, identified gaps, remediation recommendations and evidence of progress — in a form you can decide from, not merely read.

06 · Incidents

Reporting and handling

We define the internal flow for identifying, notifying and escalating incidents: identification criteria, responsible people, reporting templates, support with analysis, containment and remediation recommendations, and documented lessons learned — including support with the notification deadlines that apply after a significant incident. The investigation itself can be run by our incident analysis team.

07 · Suppliers

Supply chain security

We assess the relevant suppliers — particularly IT, cloud, data centres, managed services and digital infrastructure: assessment questionnaires, minimum security criteria, verification of contractual obligations, recommendations on security clauses, risk classification and monitoring of critical suppliers.

08 · Inspection

Audit and inspection readiness

Documentation review, consolidation of evidence, gap identification, mock inspections and preparation of the technical and organisational answers required for internal audits, external audits or requests from the competent authorities.

How it runs

The first two stages happen once. Stages 3–5 repeat for the duration of the engagement, on a cadence agreed at the start.

STAGE 1

Initial assessment

Maturity, infrastructure, existing documentation, principal risks, applicable obligations.

STAGE 2

Work plan

Priority activities, responsibilities, schedule, and the reporting mechanism towards management.

STAGE 3

Implementation

Support for internal teams: measures, documentation, clarification of responsibilities.

STAGE 4

Monitoring

Periodic verification of status, risk updates, written reports for management.

STAGE 5

Inspection readiness

Gaps, corrective measures, preparation for audits or official requests.

Scope

Who it is for

Organisations that fall, or may fall, under NIS2 and do not have the internal resources or specialist competence to handle the obligations in full.

Outsourcing the role does not transfer the legal responsibility of your management bodies. They remain accountable for approving, supervising and resourcing the measures. We are explicit about this because providers who imply otherwise are selling something the directive does not allow them to sell. What the service does is give the people who are accountable accurate information and a defensible file.

Sectors
Transport, energy, health, digital infrastructure, IT services, public administration, industry, manufacturing, distribution, food, water, postal services, research and the other sectors listed in the annexes to GEO 155/2024
Threshold
At least 50 employees, or annual turnover above EUR 10 million
Supply chain
Suppliers to an essential or important entity, even below the threshold

When outsourcing the role makes sense

  • You have no internal specialist for NIS2
  • The IT team is already at capacity
  • Management needs clear reporting
  • Security documentation is out of date
  • There is no risk register
  • Critical suppliers have not been assessed
  • There are no incident reporting procedures
  • The organisation has several sites or locations
  • Implementation has started but nothing monitors it
  • You want a documented position in case of inspection

Outsourced officer or consulting

The two are not alternatives. Consulting builds the compliance system; the outsourced officer keeps it working. There is a third route as well, in-house implementation; the comparison of the three shows when each one works.

Defined project

NIS2 consulting and audit

Scoping, gap analysis, documentation, plan of measures, risk assessment and procedures. It ends when the compliance system is built.

Continuing role

Outsourced NIS2 officer

Takes over after implementation: monitors the measures, tracks risk, supports internal reporting and holds the link between management, IT, operations and the compliance requirements.

Platform
CysNis — the platform Prodefence built for organisations under NIS2. It can support the engagement, depending on scope: initial assessment, implementation status, risk register, implementation plan, compliance documents, self-assessment and management reporting, in one place. Work is tracked there, so the current state is visible rather than reported. Platform overview →

Frequently asked questions

01Does an outsourced officer replace management?

No. Your management bodies remain accountable for approving, supervising and resourcing the measures. The outsourced officer provides coordination, monitoring and documentation, so that management can meet those obligations in an organised and verifiable way.

02Is appointing a NIS2 officer mandatory?

Appointing people responsible for the security of network and information systems may be required depending on classification, entity type and the obligations that apply. We analyse your specific situation and tell you which arrangement is correct in your case.

03Does the role have to be filled by an employee?

Depending on the organisation, the role can be covered internally or through outsourced support, provided the organisation guarantees the necessary authority, independence, access to resources and reporting lines. The exact model is set after analysing the organisation and the applicable requirements.

04We have an IT department. Do we still need this?

IT manages the technical infrastructure, but NIS2 also covers governance, risk, documentation, reporting, training, supplier assessment, continuity and the relationship with management. The outsourced officer does not replace the IT team; it complements and coordinates it against the compliance requirements.

05Does the service include the CysNis platform?

It can be integrated with CysNis, depending on the agreed scope. The platform supports progress monitoring, centralised documentation, risk management and reporting to management.

06Can you also handle the initial implementation?

Yes. We provide both consulting and compliance audit for the implementation phase and the outsourced officer role for the continuing monitoring that follows.

Tell us your sector of activity. We will tell you which obligations apply.

The preliminary scoping conversation is free of charge. If your organisation does not fall under NIS2, we will say so directly. We propose a scope and cadence that match your obligations, not a fixed package.
